Every summer Seattle’s downtown association hosts the Out To Lunch Concert Series, which is a free a concert outside at different locations around downtown Seattle. It’s a great break for us downtown workers to get out of our office and eat our lunch in the beautiful sun with some great grooves. The concerts are every Wednesday & Friday. So for the next two months I am going to feature the band playing, Wednesday’s band on Tuesday & Friday’s band on Thursday. I hope these posts will convince you Seattle readers to come out and see them. Check their website for a full schedule.
2013 series launches this Wednesday with Delhi 2 Dublin at Westlake Park.
Delhi 2 Dublin is a Canadian world music group formed in 2006 in Vancouver whose style is primarily a fusion of Bhangra and Celtic music. The original formation was for a performance at the Vancouver Celtic Festival on March 16th, 2006. Their music was well received, and the group stayed together and played various venues around Vancouver. They opened the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on July 1st, 2007. Since 2008 their tour locations include both large cities such as Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, as well as very small communities that host music festivals, such as Canmore AB, Lumby BC, Nakusp BC, Salmo BC, and Quincy CA. Their first tour outside North America was in Taiwan in August 2009.
Their Delhi 2 Dublin debut album, released December 13th, 2007, reached #3 on the Canadian world music charts, and is heard on the radio from Japan, across North America and Europe. Their music video “Apples” was also screened at Deejay Ra‘s music video night in Toronto at the FILMI festival, North America’s longest running South Asian film festival.
In November 2008 they released their second album, Delhi 2 Dublin Remixed, consisting of remixes of songs from their first album, and reached #1 on the CHARTattack world music charts. Their third album, Planet Electric, charted third on the Canadian world music charts. Like their debut album, they made a remix album of Planet Electric as well, entitled Planet: Electrified. September 12th, 2011 they released Delhi 2 Dubland EP which contains collaborations and remixes, all on the reggae and dubwise tip.
Their latest release, Turn Up The Stereo came out on my birthday last year, July 28th, 2012.
